I was hesitant to post Creve Coeur Lake here. In my book, if it's paved, it's not a hike, it's a long walk. But this trail has been one of my favorite training grounds in preparation for the longer hikes I take today. And besides, even without veering off the asphalt, it's a long walk. Add in the "walk through the woods" section and I'm sure you could do six miles here.
We started our outing at the parking lot closest to Earth City Expressway, by the fancy new bathrooms. We proceed clockwise, past the original parking lot by the falls, then onto the new section of trail which passes under, then runs parallel with, the Page Extension. After crossing a small bridge, we turn to the left, and follow the trail around to Creve Coeur Mill Road. We loop back to the lake, turn left onto the lakeside trail, and proceed back to the starting point.
Creve Coeur Park has grown by leaps and bounds with the additional funding provided by the Page Extension project. The additional trails and facilities make it a wonderful place to visit, whether for a brisk run, a round of rollerblading, or a relaxing walk. It's not quite a hiking trail, but it beats mall walking.
